Dogs easily express joy. Luna found a treasure and she wanted to share it with Sky. Watch her run across the snow and see her happiness!

These are mostly photos of Sky. Luna had some minor surgery and had to take it a little bit easier. That and being nine now, has slowed her down a little bit. She refuses to go in any of the deep snow. Who can blame her? We have one good path and some minor paths and the plowed roads on our hillside where we can easily walk. Sky loves the deep snow and nearly swims in it when she is in pursuit of a toy or stick. We have lost many tennis balls and when snow melt does happen, I expect it will be like an Easter Egg Hunt for the dogs.

Sky and I went to Loon Lake, WA last week for a NADAC agility trial. We met several friends there and had a terrific time. Out of fifteen runs, we had three qualifiers and three runs with only one error. For us, that’s a very good showing. We know our weak spots and what we need to work on before the next event.

Along the way in both directions, I stopped as often as possible to explore the landscapes. It is really a beautiful part of the state and with fall colors, even more so. We crossed the Loup (Loup Loup Pass), went down the lower Okanogan and across the Columbia, up to Grand Coulee and then south to Wilbur at highway 2. From there we went north at Reardan to Springdale and over to Loon Lake. There’s a lot of little towns in Washington and the highways don’t often go directly from one community to the next. This sounds like a complicated route but really, it’s the quickest way. On the way home, we went from Springdale to Fruitland and then down to Creston, making for a longer trip with an overnight stop but it was worth it to meet new friends and see the mountains between Springdale and the Columbia and various wildlife too. I saw lots of white-tailed deer and wild turkeys and a coyote and a porcupine. I also got to see some of the Carpenter Canyon wildfire that burned this summer.

This dog was found running on our road about halfway between Twisp and Winthrop not far from the highway. I’d guess he weighs about sixty pounds. He is an unaltered male, very friendly but has no manners. He is wearing a collar without a tag. I took him to my vet to see if he has a microchip and he does not. I’d really like to get him back to his owner.

If you know where he belongs, please let me know.

On Friday we went up to the Loup and enjoyed a walk on hard-packed snow on a Forest Service road. It was a nice change of scenery with tall healthy ponderosa pines and western larches. The dogs seemed to really enjoy being someplace different. Different smells, sights and sticks too. We saw some moose tracks and heard plenty of Pileated Woodpeckers and Mountain Chickadees. We walked about five miles or so and little Quincy kept up all the way and was not overly tired.
