So maybe not everyone thinks of Balsamroot as a wedding flower but in this case, it is. Months ago, Ken and I picked our date to hopefully coincide with the best of Balsamroot flowering and it’s looking like we did a good job. Still ten days away, on our wedding day, the yellow flowers mixed with lupine and serviceberry ought to be covering the hillsides of the Methow Valley!

Lots of wildflowers are out now. Mostly tiny ones like shooting stars and bluebells, buttercups and other tiny blooms. The lupine is almost showing color up here and at long last, balsamroot is blooming on our hillside. That’s a good sign.

The Methow Dance Collective had its annual show highlighting various types of dance and choreography at the Merc Playhouse last weekend. The grace, athleticism and artistry of these dancers left the audience in complete awe! The twelve different dances included modern, tap, West African and belly dancing. The costumes, the lighting, the sound – everything was great! Thank you Methow Dance Collective for sharing your work with us!

Last week’s Open Merc began with the Terry Hardesty band and musical guests John Weeks, Egon Steinebach, and Buzz Brose. It was a good start to a fun evening of music featuring muscians from near and far. One fellow reportedly came all the way from Alaska. Next Open Merc is May 18th.
