Cold, Clear Water

Yesterday, Luna and I took a drive in the forest to scout for our Christmas tree outing. There is almost no snow which is odd for this time of year. We have a spot where we’ve found trees for many years but it all burned in one of the summer wildfires so I was looking for green trees in that general vicinity. Fortunately much of the area on the river side of the road did not burn so we should be able to find a nice Douglas fir when we head out with our Christmas tree permit. And hopefully we will get a little snow before then.

In the meantime, here are some photos of the river.

Perched in the Morning Sun

This pair of Bald Eagles enjoyed some morning sunshine on one of the snags in front of our house recently. I have been seeing a lot of eagles in the valley recently. I think they are eating spawned out salmon.

Fall is the Best Season

Here are a few more images from October. I wish it lasted another month! The weather was perfect and the colors outstanding.

These are from several different outings, all in the Methow watershed.

Luna is adjusting to walking with a brace on her rear left leg. It supports the injured Achilles tendon and allows her leg to move forward rather than swaying out. I think she is happier with it.

Bold Bird

Bald Eagles often perch in the snags below our house. I imagine they are hoping for roadkill or spawned out salmon or some other tasty tidbit. Eagles tend to be scavengers rather than hunters around here. This one seemed to take offense that a Black-billed Magpie chose to share its snag perch.

A Slow Walk in the Woods

The girls and I enjoyed a short, slow walk in the woods last week. Luna has missed her outings and was so happy to be on a trail again. She sniffed all the sniffs, saw all the sights and drank deeply from the river. Her attitude is good despite injury and old age.
