Sky and I enjoyed a short hike yesterday with friends. Luna had to stay home. She has an inflamed Achilles tendon and we hope that with rest and ice, it will improve so she can join us on the trails again.
The aspens were stunning and views of the area burned in the recent Cedar Creek fire were pretty unsettling. It was easy to see how that fire could have gotten into the valley and been far more destructive. The firefighters did good work.
Dogs just want to have fun.
Molly came up to play with Sky and Luna today! Mostly with Sky it seems. We haven’t seen her in a couple of weeks and she has really grown! She is nearly four months old and weighs about 25 pounds. Oh these little ones – they grow so fast.
Yesterday we hiked to beautiful Blue Lake in the North Cascades. What a relief from the 100 degree heat here in the valley! We saw some snow (much to the dogs’ delight) and found the lake still had a little bit of ice so that clear blue water was cold! That didn’t stop Sky from jumping off the rock in pursuit of sticks!
We have had quite a few days of ice fog. That combined with no new snow can make a pretty bleak picture. The little snow we have has been softened and frozen into an uneven frozen track that often makes walking difficult. I put ‘yak traks’ on my shoes just about every time I go out for a walk. One day last week there was a hint that the sun might be shining just a little higher up and the dogs and I had a few minutes before meeting our friends for agility practice. So we went up to frozen Pearrygin Lake to see if we could find the sun and to stretch our legs. There were glimpses of sunshine, sucker holes, but by the time we left, it was just gray again.
