The puppy Molly continues to look for guidance from Luna and Sky. Luna is particularly patient with the youngster while Sky worries that Molly might be just trying to get her sticks. Molly the puppy will soon be Mollydog but for now she is Mollywog, all wiggly and squirmy and full of puppy energy. And maybe I should just call this the Mollyblog!

Yesterday before any election tallies were out, we went to the mountains to play in the snow. Ken was getting ready for a long trip and it seemed like a good time to have some fun and maybe get a holiday card photo too.
At Washington Pass there was at least a foot of snow and some groomed ski tracks too! We hadn’t thought to bring skis. Darn! The dogs were ecstatic to play on a snowy surface again. The mountains were fogged in when we arrived but gradually they emerged giving us breathtaking views of the craggy peaks. It was worth the wait.
As we returned to the car we saw families with small and big kids, some who had NEVER played in snow before! That was fun! They didn’t all have appropriate footwear but it didn’t stop them from enjoying themselves.
These are mostly photos of Sky. Luna had some minor surgery and had to take it a little bit easier. That and being nine now, has slowed her down a little bit. She refuses to go in any of the deep snow. Who can blame her? We have one good path and some minor paths and the plowed roads on our hillside where we can easily walk. Sky loves the deep snow and nearly swims in it when she is in pursuit of a toy or stick. We have lost many tennis balls and when snow melt does happen, I expect it will be like an Easter Egg Hunt for the dogs.
Last week MA and I and the four dogs skied to Falls Creek Falls. This is the same place I visited back in November when we could still drive there. Photos of that day are here. It is a very pleasant outing on classic cross country skis and during the week there was no snowmobile traffic. It is groomed for snow machines.
The falls are very frozen and also snow-covered so the interesting formations were buried. It was still quite beautiful. There was little color to the day except from Sky’s eyes and Frida’s fur.
The dogs enjoyed time on the trail and three out of four were willing to pose for a photo. Luna said no. She is an independent thinker.
We did this same trip a couple years ago when there was far less snow and Sky was still a pup. Photos from that day are here.
Yesterday Juliet and I went birding in the Conconully and Okanogan Highlands regions of our county. Birding was slow with not a lot of active birds around but the light on the snow-covered hills was enough to make us stop repeatedly and comment about the beauty that lay before us.
We were surprised to find a Yellow-rumped Warbler along the Okanogan river and closed out our birding day watching a Short-eared Owl hunting at dusk.
