Some days you just need to get outside. Yesterday was one of those. Really, most days a person should get outside. For more than a month we’ve had pretty cold temperatures with many days hovering in the single digits and below zero so I’ve been inclined to spend too much time inside.

And then. I got a new computer and it has sucked me into this screen for hours. Fortunately Marcy called yesterday and suggested we meet up and go skiing. What a good idea! It was gloriously sunny with mountain views extending 180 degrees and powder snow. We had our dogs and they were so happy to be out in the hills again. I came back refreshed and energized. Of course, now this new computer awaits me with expectations that I will figure out all the new software and all the settings on the old software. Wish me luck.

Another day with bluebird blue skies and cold temperatures. It started quietly with a good breakfast and a brisk dog walk.

Carl joined Ken later in the day to prepare the big bonfire. The pine tree that fell across our road on Thanksgiving provided most of the wood and some pallets held it all together. There were sparklers and smoke bombs added for more visual appeal. Sky was skeptical about the whole process. Why on earth would we want to burn up all of those good sticks?

We had a regular campfire early in the evening so people could keep warm while waiting for the New Year. Everyone took turns at making ‘stick people’ out of real sticks, twine and a little wire as needed. The stick figures were hung from the bonfire in preparation to ward off any evil lurking in wait for 2017.

Dogs were sent inside and the fire was lit at 10 pm. It was a great success, starting slowly and then engulfing the pine, sending up great clouds of sparks. Gradually it collapsed on itself leaving a massive pile of hot coals that kept us warm til well into the early morning hours of 2017.

Happy New Year!

The puppy Molly continues to look for guidance from Luna and Sky. Luna is particularly patient with the youngster while Sky worries that Molly might be just trying to get her sticks. Molly the puppy will soon be Mollydog but for now she is Mollywog, all wiggly and squirmy and full of puppy energy. And maybe I should just call this the Mollyblog!
