Oregon Beach

I was without a computer for four weeks so I got a little behind with this blog. So bear with me as I add a few posts.

This is from the trip to Oregon five weeks ago. I was able to get some quality time on the beach near Florence. I was particularly fascinated by the action of the water and sand as the waves washed over a sand dollar.

Beach Birds

A few birds from the beach. We also saw Marbled Godwits, Bald Eagles and a Peregrine Falcon that dived on a flock of peeps.

Beach Stuff

Some stuff from the beach. The blue jellyfish-like creatures are Velella velella, also know as by-the-wind sailors. Sometimes they get caught up in off-shore winds and end up on the beaches, dying and leaving a slippery and if it’s warm enough, stinky mess. Fortunately for us, it was not warm when we were there. You can read about them here. The first time I saw them, there were one or two here and there and by the time I left the beach, vast swaths of sand were covered with them.
