This Sharp-shinned Hawk visited the feeders in a snow storm earlier this week. It has been coming around for a while. All the little birds scatter when the hawk arrives.

There have been a couple interesting birds at the feeders recently. This American Kestrel did not stick around very long but he sure did give me some good looks! His feathers are very puffed up due to the cold. Normally, he would have a tubular shaped body.

The dogs and I went for an afternoon snowy walk today. They played with sticks. I looked for birds. The only birds I saw were Black-capped Chickadees. They are very athletic. Imagine gripping a branch with your toes! I like chickadees.

We went for a bird walk this morning in the snow flurries. There were not a lot of birds except mergansers and goldeneyes but they were too far away for photos.

Last night was the culmination of Christmas at the End of the Road in Winthrop. Santa had arrived, bonfires were lit, hot drinks were served, town lights were lit along with the festive Christmas tree. And then the fireworks! Best thing about winter fireworks? You don’t need to stay up late to see them! They start at 6 pm.
